Bernard William Baird, 96, passed away peacefully at Lakeshore

Hospital on March 24, 2025. Bernard was born on April 26, 1928, in

Douglastown, Gaspe, to Mary Ann Cunning and Ernest Baird.

Bernard leaves behind his beloved wife of 71 years, Elma

Patterson, and his two daughters Linda and Dawna (husband Danny

Jones). Bernard was also a loving grandfather to Malcolm, Spencer,

Vanessa, and Lindsay, who he enjoyed spending time with.

Bernard was predeceased by his son Ricky and siblings Alice,

Margaret, Gerald, Douglas, and Alex. He is survived by his baby

sister Edna.

 

Bernard retired at the age of 61 after 35 years, he was co-owner

of Baird’s Esso Service Station with his brother Gerald. Some of his

pastimes were working in his enormous garden, maintaining his

property, cutting firewood, and snow removal. His talents were

woodworking, playing the violin, and fixing thing. Bernard was humble,

had a smile that would light up the room, and a caring soul that would

help anyone. Bernard held a special place for Denyse Galarneau who was

part of his life for 30 years and cared for him the last three years of his

life while struggling with dementia.

 

A service will be held in his memory in Gaspe, Quebec in the summer of 2025.
