BLOOMFIELD, Rose
9 février 2022

Rose Bloomfield, beloved mother and Omi, passed away February 9, 2022. Devoted wife to David for over 50 years. Their first date may have started with her escaping out of the back door of the pharmacy she worked at, but that date eventually led to a love affair that spanned decades. From Montreal to Philly to Long Sault to Sanibel and back to Montreal, Rose always made a home filled with love and laughter (and latkes!) wherever they landed.

Mother to Ron, Mark, Steve and Heidi, Rose treasured her time raising her children. Through their adventures and misadventures, Rose remained their biggest cheerleader. Rose could not get enough of her kids, even as adults, hungry for all the details of their lives, usually over dinner at one of their favourite restaurants, in Montreal and Sanibel. Mother-in-law to Janet, Angela and Natalie, Rose opened her heart to her daughters-in-law. Her loving support and promise to never interfere in their marriages was an often-told story (and mostly true!).

Omi. How do we put this? Being an Omi to her eleven grandchildren was the biggest joy of Rose’s life. Ryan, Carter, Jake, Brenden, Holly, Shane, Eve, Kieran, Marcus, Elliot and Alex were loved, doted on, spoiled, cared for and adored by Rose every minute of their lives. She had no greater pleasure than when her grandchildren were visiting her or she knew they were thinking of her. She had endless patience for these kids, positive words of encouragement and always treats in the freezer or in her German chocolate drawer. Family was the centre of Rose’s life.

Rose’s big heart, however, did not just include her children. The friends her kids brought home through the years always knew they had a soft spot to land with her. This embracing of new people who inevitably became family continued throughout her life. Rose leaves life long friends in Rachel and Art Thompson, who always kept Rose in their thoughts and in their Costco cart; Myrna, who never failed to cheer Rose up with her laughter; Nicole McHale, Rose’s Sanibel partner in crime at many a Sanctuary party; dear friends Carolyn and Cotton who always took such good care of Rose when she was away; Tony, who inspired Rose with her painting; Crystal and Volker, her wonderful German family who shared so many happy times during warm Sanibel winters. Special thanks to Laurie-Ann who cared so kindly for Rose throughout the last years. Rose now joins her mother, Rosie, her sisters Ingrid (Tante Inky) and Alexa and her brother Dieter in peace. We will miss her very, very much.
