Iris Gore

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Iris Gore (nee Charlesworth) on November 15th, 2021.  Iris was born in Montreal on Feb. 18th, 1925.  She met her husband Jim and they were married on January 17th, 1948.  They enjoyed 64 wonderful years together, raised 4 children and were blessed with 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  Iris had a profound impact on all of them.

Iris was an energetic and outgoing person with numerous interests.  She played badminton, and enjoyed walking and skiing.  She was a partner in a catering business while raising 4 children.  In her free time she loved to play bridge and socialize with her friends.  Later in her life she continued to stay active with aquafitness, something she enjoyed with her husband Jim.  Most nights you could also find Iris and Jim embroiled in a game of scrabble, which Iris would invariably win.  However, her priority was always time for her children and grandchildren.

Iris generously gave to the community she lived in.  She spent many hours volunteering at Cedar Park United Church where she assisted with church school, bazaars and fundraising activities.  She was also an active volunteer with West Island Senior Enterprises (WISE) and donated much time to assist with residents at Montreal Extendicare.

Iris was the loving daughter of James and Ethel Charlesworth (both predeceased).  She was the loving wife and lifelong partner of James Dewhurst Gore (predeceased).  She was the cherished mother of Devorah (partner Ed Bradbury), Christopher (wife Gillian Schultze), Michael (wife Janet Maher) and John.  She was the loving grandmother of Elie, Max, Joseph, Solomon, Shifrah, Asher, Nechama, Meir, Yehuda and Aidel (Devorah’s children); Thomas and Samuel (Chris’ children); Jack, William and Luke (Michael’s children) and Jade, India and Sierra (John’s children). She was also the great-grandmother of Deena,Shamshon, Yaacov (Solomon’s children); Samuel and Yonatan (Max’s children); Yocheved,Yoni, and Yaacov (Shifrah’s children); Rochel and Leah (Asher’s children); Rose Iris (Joseph’s child) and Harlow (Jade’s child).

Special thanks to all of the staff at Manoir Beaconsfield for the love and care they provided Iris over the last many years.  Iris made everyone laugh with her sharp wit and gentle demeanor.

A Celebration of Life to honour and remember Iris will be planned for early January 2022.  The church meant a great deal to both Iris and her husband Jim.  Donations to Cedar Park United Church in her memory are welcome.  Donations can be made online at cedarparkunited.com or by cheque to Cedar Park United Church, 204 Lakeview Avenue, Pointe-Claire, QC, H9S 4C5.
