MONETTE, Irene Margaret (nee Richmond)
15 September 1942 – 6 August 2021
MONETTE, Allan Joseph (Deschutter)
20 April 1939 – 11 August 2021
Irene passed away in Pointe Claire at the age of 78. For 12 years she refused to let cancer get the better of her, and when it finally did, she faced it with courage and dignity.
Allan, her beloved husband, passed away at the age of 82 at the Montreal Chest Institute (MUHC) after over 4 months on life support following heart surgery. He remained brave and good natured until his body could no longer carry on.
They will be dearly missed by their children, Laura (Rob) and Glen, their granddaughters, Jessica, Jaclyn and Robyn, Irene’s sisters, Nora (Bob), Marjory (John), Doris (David), many nieces and nephews and many friends.
Allan was born in Cardinal, Ontario. A happy-go-lucky, easy-going fellow, he was a musician and a businessman but was most famous for his workshop and ability to repair and build just about anything.
Irene was born during WWII Cambuslang, Glasgow. She was the youngest of 4 daughters, which likely contributed to her feistiness and determination to live life on her own terms. The family immigrated to Canada in 1957 where Irene met Al.
They were a team, and their devotion to each other was an inspiration to all. When Allan decided he had to run his own business, they worked together to build ProValve. They enjoyed years of camping in upstate New York, and many winters in Florida. They loved nothing more than to share good times with friends and family. They did everything together – they are forever in our hearts.
A joint celebration of life will be held at Voluntas Funeral Services, 4695 St-Jean Blvd., Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Qc H9H 2A7.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence in Kirkland, or the Eldercare Foundation of Ottawa would be greatly appreciated.
We are forever grateful to the staff and volunteers at the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence for their wonderful and compassionate care of Irene. We thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Montreal Chest Institute at the McGill University Health Center for their wonderful care of Al.
