WHITE, Leeford Dockley

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Leeford Dockley White who died on September 13, 2025 at home in Kirkland, Quebec, Canada. He took his last breath with his beloved wife by his side. We mourn the loss of a dear father, a husband, a brother, a cousin, an uncle, a friend, a colleague and a citizen.

Leeford was born on November 16, 1934 in St. Mary’s Parish situated on the north coast of Jamaica. He was the eldest son of Headly and Lena White. Raised in a devout Christian household with humble beginnings, he always remained a “country boy” at heart. He was a hard-working, grounded and modest man who had the soul of a builder, the imagination of an engineer and the will power of a steadfast provider.

He achieved his dream of mastering a trade and became the first black man to earn a master license in air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC) after training in Labrador. It was a milestone that would shape the course of his life. In 1963, he and ‘Peaches’ seized the opportunity to migrate to Canada. They applied to the Northern call for skilled workers that was published in West Indian newspapers.

For 62 years, Lee built a legacy of striding professional growth, compassion for his clients and an unwavering dedication to his family, community and the nation that helped him to become a licensed tradesperson when he landed in Montreal, Quebec. As a well-known small businessman in metropolitan Montreal, ‘Monsieur Lee’ was admired for his acquired craftsmanship, mastery and contribution to his chosen industry.

Leeford was gentle, generous, kind, and willing to dutifully help other tradesmen. He often impressed his colleagues and advisors. He was a devoted husband of nearly 66 years, an energetic father and a proud grandfather with a guiding spirit who lived with integrity and love. His life was a testament to quiet strength, enduring love and living well in trust, duty and personal triumph. His memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a good-natured man who was admired by those who protected his honor.

Leeford is mourned by his immediate family: His wife, Eileen ‘Peaches.’ His children, Michael, Michelle-Lee and Natasha.
His daughter-in-law, Shelia and son-in-law, Robert.
His grandchildren: Mija, Emma, Sean and Alex.

His siblings: Lascelle, Lloyd, Madgerine and Horace ‘Baz.’ He is preceded in death by Louise ‘Pam,’ Johnny ‘Boisey,’ Victor, Sydney, Magnus, Lynne and their families.
