Arun Bagga

Arun Chandra Bagga passed away peacefully in Kirkland, Montréal, February 1st, 2022, surrounded by his family, loving wife Renata, sons Marek and Amit, daughters-in-law Davina and Gabrielle, and grandchildren Ofelia, Mikaëlle and Devon.

He was born in Lucknow, India in 1943 to father Shiv Bagga and mother Shanti Bagga and two siblings, brother Navin and sister Adarsh.

Arun Graduated as a Marine Engineer in 1964, from the Directorate of Marine Engineering Training in Calcutta.  He shortly thereafter received an Extra First Class Engineering Certificate from South Shields Marine College in England. Following many adventurous years at sea, Arun moved on to become a successful Chief Superintendent for various companies around the world.

He served in maritime transport for over forty years.  His family recalls many an occasion where he would get up in the middle of the night to take an emergency flight to tend to an accident, to minimize environmental consequence and to ensure safety of others. He worked tirelessly, yet somehow found time for the things that really matter in life.

Immigrating with his family to Montréal, Arun cherished family life, and later the beautiful grand-children whom he adored.  Upon retirement, he continued travelling to visit distant family as well as new horizons. He enjoyed his expansive hobby of photography, frequently contributing to the Montreal Lakeshore Camera Club and presenting to various travel groups with his wife and travel companion.

A loving husband, devoted father and celebrated friend, to those lucky to have crossed paths with him, Arun was a true gentleman.  He is fondly remembered as a very brilliant, yet an astonishingly humble man.  He enjoyed cooking special meals for family and friends, taking pride in following his own recipe. He would often tell a good joke to lighten a mood.  He will forever be cherished by all those who loved him, in India, Poland and his home here in Canada.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, February 6, 2022 with the immediate family. A further celebration of life will be held open to extended family and friends to attend, date to be confirmed.  Those wishing to honour Arun’s lifelong commitment to family and service to the community can make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
