Joseph Bedic

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Joe, on December 24th, after a long courageous battle with an aggressive brain cancer at the age of 68.

He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 44 years Cathy Hamer, amazing father to Christopher (Jennifer Anastasopoulos), and Ryan (Mélanie Gibeault). Loving “Bubba” to grandchildren to Logan, Savannah, Alessia and Matteo. Son of Zlata Katovcic, predeceased by father Cvetko Bedic. Brother of Anna Bedic.

A special mention goes to Sophia Hlongwani, who helped care for Joe and made him smile on a daily basis.

Joe was the ultimate family man, nothing gave him more pleasure than spending time with his family. He loved everything soccer, and was known as “The Gazelle” in his younger days because of his speed on the field.

He will be forever missed and never forgotten, in our hearts forever.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Center.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, January 8th at Voluntas Funeral Home, 4695 St-Jean Blvd, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC, H9H 2A7 (514-695-7979). Due to the pandemic situation and restrictions, the gathering will take place outdoor and vaccine passport is mandatory.

Words are never adequate in moments like these. I will say though, that my heart goes out to the family, and I will always remember the joyous memories that I was privileged to have in knowing Joe.

I can’t say enough about Joe Bedic. A true family man – family always came first with his love of soccer a close second. He was a student of the game. I was honored when he trusted me to have his son Ryan work with me from a young age and his airport drop off message to me changed over the years from “take care of my boy” to “take care of our boy”. Both his sons have grown to be fine men and a reflection of the dedication of their mom and dad. Joe will truly be missed – we will one day catch up on the other side.

Our sincerest condolences to Cathy and all of the family. Some of the many qualities that we appreciated about Joe were his strong work ethic, sense of humour, but most importantly, his dedication and love for his family. He was so proud of all of their successes, especially those of his children and grandchildren. He was thoughtful with his words, patient, kind, and always gave us very meaningful advice. He fought his illness with great strength and humility, and while he is no longer with us physically, we know that he is watching over all of the family and friends that loved him so much.

Rest well Joe, we will miss you dearly.

My condolences to the entire Bedic family . With a heavy heart I leave you this soccer players prayer below (play like a champion)…
Thanks God, for giving me life; and talents for my participation in sports.
Help me to play well, to use my powers to the full, to see them as gifts from you.
Be with me when I need to play hurt, when I have to deal with the pain of injury,
    disappointment, loss.
Keep me aware of the brotherhood/sisterhood I have with all athletes, even when
they are opponents; free me from the temptation to fake, to foul, to cheat.
I need to see that dedication to the cause will mean suffering, but let me know that
it is the kind of suffering that leads to new life and greater maturity.
Help me play with heart, and never lose heart.
Most of all, help me never to quit in my efforts to be open to you. For I believe your
full coming into my life is the way to real life, in all I do; I believe it is the way of my
becoming the truly human person you destined me to be.
    Amen.

Cathy, I still have no words to console you. My heart & warmest of thoughts go to You, Chris & Ryan, as well as their respective families. Joe was just a really kind soul. He loved his family & obviously his soccer. His gentleness & humbling reception of his big screen tv from Chris & Ryan, for his 60th birthday brought all of us to tears. May he now rest in peace & suffer no more. It was all my pleasure to have known him. Prayers to all of Joe’s family
