Birch, Christopher
May 2, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. Christopher Birch, on May 2, 2024, at the age of 53. He leaves behind in mourning his wife Marie-Claude Gauthier, his children Megan, Catherine, Christopher, and Nathan. His mother Solange Pelletier (Maurice Gilbert), his sisters Alice and Suzanne, nephews and nieces, other relatives, colleagues, and friends.

A highly esteemed family physician by his patients, he practiced emergency medicine for nearly a quarter of a century mainly at Lakeshore General Hospital. A family man, his coworkers and friends could all testify to how proud he was of his children. Sometimes a volunteer, he was present and involved in his children’s sports, notably soccer and hockey. He never hesitated to share his knowledge and tips wholeheartedly, thus aiding the players’ development and helping them reach new heights.

Visitation will take place at Voluntas Funeral Home, 4695 St-Jean Blvd, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Qc H9H 2A7, on Thursday, May 16, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday, May 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a ceremony at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Voluntas Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to Crohn et colite Canada would be greatly appreciated.

Our deepest sympathies to the family. We met Chris 6 years ago through hockey and he made us feel so welcome and at home while in Quebec. We are so glad we could reconnect with him a few weekends ago at the tournament. All he could talk about was how proud he was of all his children ❤️ Sending much love from NS,
    Roy, Denise & Cole Macleod

I had the great honor of working with Dr Birch at Lakeshore, and he was and amazing doctor and person. Having seen him as a doctor for myself and having him as a colleague was truly a pleasure. He was super approachable and never made me feel like he was above me being a doctor and me a nurse. He would always take his time to explain things and always willing to show me new things. He was truly a remarkable person! I was so saddened to hear of his passing, I am sending all my prayers to his family and friends on this great loss.

Devastating news for all who knew him. I’m so sorry for your loss. He was a kind Dr who helped my son when he had a broken arm and needed support. He was blessed with a talented and beautiful family. We will remember him fondly for his willingness to explain all things hockey to the newbies in the sport. Rest in peace.
