Brayton, Frederick John “Fred”

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick John (“Fred”) Brayton, who died on October 15, 2025, at the age of 69, after a short illness.

Born in Montreal, Fred built a life filled with love, laughter, and connection. He was proud to launch his professional journey with the Montreal Alouettes and the Montreal Manic soccer team, where he served as ticket office manager – a role that perfectly reflected his lifelong passions for sports and people. He later moved into residential and then commercial real estate, where he was admired for his integrity, dedication, and warmth. In his retirement, he worked at IGA and Calzone Pizzeria, where he touched more lives than he even knew.

Fred was married to his beloved wife, Nancy, for 49 years. Together they raised two daughters, Rebecca and Emily (Alex), who were his greatest pride and joy. He loved being a “girl dad,” cheering his daughters on at every milestone – at concerts, plays, work events, and ballet recitals – and never letting them leave the car without a kiss on the top of their heads.

Fred was always game for anything – especially if it meant spending time with his family. Whether it was going to the food truck festival every month or braving the cold to visit a trendy Christmas café, he was there with a smile. He happily drove his daughters anywhere, at any time of day or night, and was deeply involved in their lives and interests. He volunteered for the governing board at Rebecca’s high school, chaperoned countless field trips, and served on the board at WISTA, Emily’s theatre group.

Fred was known for his big personality – funny, opinionated, and endlessly kind. A lifelong sports fan, he proudly supported the Montreal Expos, Canadiens, and Alouettes, and was a member of the 1974 Little Grey Cup-winning Laval Scorpions football team. He could turn any conversation back to sports, charmingly misquoted almost every joke he told, sang opera in the shower, and made a perfect Rice Krispie square.

Fred was predeceased by his brothers Jim and Doug, and is survived by his wife Nancy; daughters Rebecca and Emily; son-in-law Alex; sister-in-law Julia; nephews Dan and Tom; and many cherished relatives and friends who will miss him deeply.

A celebration of Fred’s life will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Voluntas Commemoration, 4695 Boul. Saint-Jean, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will include a short visitation, a ceremony, and refreshments. Friends and family are invited to come ready to share their favorite Fred stories-everyone is welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society, in honour of his late mother, Philomena.
