BROWN, Edgar
June 18, 2023

May 14, 1941 – June 18, 2023

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Edgar on June 18th, 2023. Beloved husband of Barbara, cherished father of Linda (Steve), Carolyn (Mike) and grandfather to Evan. Predeceased by his brothers Michael and Andrew. He will be dearly missed by his sisters Anne (Greg), Carla, his sister-in-law Ann and his many nephews. He will be fondly remembered by his many friends and his church, Masonic and Shrine families.

Edgar was a scout leader for many years and the many weekends spent at Tamaracouta with his buddies was a source of great joy. He was also the treasurer of Ste. Genevieve United Church for over 30 years and the hours spent in the church office or at home working on accounts was where Edgar was truly in his element. One of Edgar’s most memorable moments was when he became Worshipful Master of Meridian Royal Alexander Lodge. He was a proud Shriner, a member of the Greeters’ Unit taking pleasure in picking up patients at the airport as well as a PTS driver for the Shriner’s hospital.

Anyone who knew him enjoyed his sense of humour, his quick wit, his huge heart and contagious smile and thoughts of our fun times, our silly times and our years of camping are among our most treasured memories. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Donna and Mike for their many kindnesses and support and extend our gratitude to Stéphanie Côté and the staff at Voluntas.

His family will receive condolences at Ste. Genevieve United church, 4697 Boul. St Jean, Dollard des Ormeaux, on Saturday July 22, 2023 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. A masonic service will take place at 1 p.m. the funeral will follow at 2 p.m. The family invites you to join in the Voluntas reception hall from 3 to 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children Canada or Ste. Genevieve United Church.

Dear Barbara, Linda and Caroline … It is with heavy hearts that Silvia and I learned of Edgar’s death the day after he died. Personally, he was such a presence in my life during my years of ministry at Ste-Genevieve United Church. Not only did he function as the caretaker at the church for many years, but he was also our congregation’s dedicated Treasurer for a very long time. If strangers walked into the building, I am sure there were times when they would have been convinced that we couldn’t stand one another, but Edgar and I had this ongoing comedic “battle” about expenditures, and there was always the presence of humour gleaming and sparkling from our eyes as we engaged in our thrust and parry. And who will ever forget Edgar’s comical participation in the congregation’s annual “Hog ‘n Snort Show” if they attended that event. Edgar had a heart of gold and he gave himself to his family and community in so many ways. I also had the distinct pleasure and honour of serving with him as a fellow team member on United Church Cursillo weekends. He would share his story and thoughts from the heart and I know for certain that he touched many who attended those weekend retreats with him.

Rest in peace, dear Edgar. You will be missed, but we are definitely richer in spirit for having had the opportunity to journey with you in life. De Colores!

Love, Ian & Silvia Smith (Embrun, ON)
