1925-2016
Died peacefully, at the Lakeshore General Hospital, December 17, 2016. He was born in Verdun, the first and much loved son of the late William Carley and Margaret Connolly. He was the dear husband of Margaret Cameron for almost forty years, cherished older brother of Eileen, Moira, Brenda, Michael, Brian and of the late Peggy and Willie. He was devoted “Uncle John” to many nephews and nieces who will miss his loving concern and wise words.
John served the Archdiocese of Montreal as a priest for twenty-five years. He worked with C.C.C.B. in Adult Education after the Second Vatican Council. He served in administrative positions with Development and Peace, Catholic Community Services, Placement Potential and as Chaplain in the RCAF in Canada and Germany. A man of deep faith, he was a loyal son of the Church both as a priest and layman. As a fearless critic of social structures that ignored the value of individual persons, John’s models were Jesus and Don Quixote.
We will celebrate his life at the Eucharist on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church (98 Aurora, Pointe-Claire (Qc) H9R 3G7). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice. Funeral entrusted to Voluntas (514-695-7979;Voluntas.ca)
