DEVRIESE, Herman
September 2, 1930 - May 1, 2026

On May 1st, 2026 we sadly said goodbye to our father Herman Roger Arthur Devriese. After a long and healthy life he passed away at the age of 95.
He now joins his predeceased wife, Maria Therrisa Houwelyckx, and is survived by his loving children, Ida (Roger Rodriguez), Peter (Zenko Takei) and Van (Andrea Grisé) along with his grandchildren, Anya Rodriguez (Adam Hadeed), Jason Rodriguez (Nicola Scott), Nathan Rodriguez and Jessica Devriese. In addition, his great grandchildren, Harrison, Holden and Hugh. Dad also took great pride in his extended family through Zenko: daughter Nahori (Kaito) and their children Keiju and Hanna as well as her son Yusuke (Ayuka). He was loved by them all.
After marrying mom in Belgium, the two emigrated to start a new life in Canada. Their journey took them across the map, with time spent in Elliot Lake, Sept-íles, and Thetford Mines along with several years in Germany and Tunisia. They eventually moved to the family cottage – a home they built – and enjoyed their years there until mom’s passing. Every winter, they could be found in Trinidad and Tobago, enjoying the sun and precious time with Ida and the family.
Mom always said to not worry about Dad, as he has had a great life and would be around for a long time because he never stressed anything. So true. He travelled the world multiple times, ate well, enjoyed a drink, and together they raised a strong family doing it their way.
With love always, Safe Travels!

May 7, 2026 at 2:01 pmMy deepest sympathies to you Ida, Peter and Van ( to your families too ).
I remember you when you attended St Patrick School. ( I was your Kindergarten teacher and also the Brownies leader. ) May the fond memories of both your parents continue to help ease the pain of your loss.

May 9, 2026 at 11:11 amMy sympathies to you all. I remember your Dad and Mom from both my encounters over the years at school and visits to Breaches Lake where your Dad cared for your Mom for her final years.
They both had a good sense of humour and enjoyed our visits. Your Dad and I took a few trips to Sherbrooke for treatments to his eyes.
Most of the original residents at Breaches have passed away leaving us with fond memories.
May he and your Mom rest in peace together.

May 12, 2026 at 7:35 amI have so many fond memories of times with Herman and Maria as a teenager at Breeches Lake, when my grandmother (Dorothy Cunnington) and I would visit with them.
Herman had such a twinkle in his eye and a fantastic sense of humour. I always loved listening to his stories.
Sending all of you my condolences on your loss. I will always remember Herman and Maria with fondness.
With love,
Alexandra, Adam and Gregory

May 12, 2026 at 4:55 pmMy deepest condolences to the family. Even though Herman lived a long, fruitful life, I’m sure he will be missed. My Mum, Hazel was fond of Maria and Herman, and enjoyed many pleasant gatherings with them at Breeches Lake. Great memories!
