1943 – 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Samuel Jiwan on December 27, 2023 at the age of 80. He succumbed, after a two month courageous battle, to cancer. He was blessed, to have passed in his own home, surrounded by his loving family.
Samuel is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Venus; his loving children Zenith (Ashvini), Romma, Azar, Rukhsana (Khuram), and Anita (Robi); and cherished grandchildren Braden, Jasmine, Maya, Darshan, Aradhna, Rayan, Leela, Aydin, Vardhan, Arjun and Dia; and also by siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends.
Samuel lovingly referred to as “Sam” by his family and friends worked as an electrician at Canadian Pacific Railway, for well over 30 years, and took great pride in his work. He rarely missed a day of work which speaks to his commitment and work ethic. After his retirement, he enjoyed repairing cars with his son and found every broken thing to “fix or repair” in his ingenious way. He was very skilled and truly a jack of all trades.
He was a loving father and an incredibly devoted grandfather. His grandchildren adored him and were drawn to him like magnets. Lovingly, we referred to him as “grandpa daycare”. He was a generous, kind and big hearted man who cared deeply for his family, friends and his community.
He impacted so many and his charm and magic were felt far and wide. We will remember him fondly for his infectious smile and laughter which touched us all. We will miss him dearly but know that he is in the hands of our Lord and Saviour. His legacy will continue through his children and grandchildren and will live forever in our hearts.
The family would like to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers during this time of grief.
The visitation will take place at Voluntas Funeral Home, 4695 St-Jean, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC, H9H 2A7, on Thursday January 4, 2024 from 2-7 p.m. and on Friday January 5, 2024 from 8-9 a.m., with the funeral service in the chapel at 9 a.m. The burial will follow at Rideau Memorial Gardens.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:1-3
