MacLeod, Errol

Captain Errol MacLeod passed away on December 31, 2024. He was predeceased by his beloved mother, father, and two brothers. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Ghislaine Boivin, his daughters, Carolyn (Michael) and Kim (Stephane), and his grandchildren, Désirée and Zachariah Blazier, and others.

As part of a mining family, his early career was in the Chibougamau mines, working underground, in engineering and in surveying. Longing for more meaning and adventure in his life, he began his flying career as a bush pilot. He would go on to fly in many Northern parts of Quebec, Ontario and Manitoba, including becoming a manager for Fecteau Air Services. Being a bush pilot – flying footloose and fancy free – was probably one of the happiest moments of Errol’s life.

The 1960s was a great period of Errol’s life. He played guitar in a band in local venues and curled competitively in the Lac St. Jean and Val D’or areas. Beside flying, he loved fishing, playing tennis and playing pool.  In 1968, he married the love of his life, Ghislaine.

His career took him to Nordair, Canadian Airlines and Air Canada. He loved the Arctic; took many photos and always had many stories to tell. The planes he cherished the most were the DC-3 (on skis), the Boeing 737 and the Beaver.

Errol had an incredible sense of humour and – as mentioned by some of his peers – had “a powerful personality”. In short, Errol always said, “I started in the mines and finished in the skies.”

Errol loved his wife, daughters and two grandchildren deeply. They were an important part of his life. Errol will be profoundly missed.

Visitation will be held at Voluntas Funeral Home, 4695 St-Jean, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Qc, on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 12-2 p.m. Eulogies at 2 p.m. followed by a reception.
