Ruben Dizon Manio passed away in his 96th year peacefully at the Lakeshore Hospital on September 6, 2023.
He was thankful for a life well-lived but missed his wife of sixty-five years when she passed away almost a year ago on September 21, 2022. Together they built a family of five children, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Till his last days, he had the clarity of mind to know and feel the love of his family and was able to express to them his last wishes. Having lost his mother at age 12, he learned to fend for himself early, including working for American soldiers during the war. He studied law and was a working student. His electronics work at the Manila airport landed him an opportunity to work in Saigon in 1956. He left law school and worked for the USAID in Saigon from 1956 to 1972.
In 1975, at forty-eight years old, he emigrated to Canada after being successfully recruited by Canadian Marconi Company in Manila. His family followed suit a year later. His determination to offer his children better opportunities never wavered. He leaves behind a legacy of the true meaning of duty and a commitment to reach one’s utmost potential. He was proud of having contributed to the success of the CanadaArm as he was part of the team who worked on the project at SPAR Aerospace where he retired from in 1988.
During his lifetime, he witnessed many innovations, from television to the internet. His curiosity, intelligence and desire to be a lifelong learner allowed him to enjoy and partake of their benefits. He loved his iPad where he was able to watch boxing matches and listen to his favorite music videos on YouTube. He texted, emailed, used Facetime, Messenger and Facebook. He even held a Twitter account.
He will be missed greatly. His family is grateful for a long life filled with many happy memories that will offer some comfort during this time of loss.
No viewing or wake has been arranged. If you would like to pay your respects, his funeral mass will be held on:
