Raymond Schami

It is with great sadness that we four sisters announce the death of our beloved father, Raymond, on January 7, 2021, in Montreal, Quebec, at the age of 83.

He leaves behind many loved ones, namely his four daughters, Veronica (Anthony), Viviane Sabilla, Stephanie (Tom), Danielle (Larry), and his grandchildren, Adriana (Jason), Gaby, Adam Yassin, Yasmine Amina, Alexandre, Nora, Leeland, Melvin and Evans. Our heart goes out to his siblings and their families, Gilbert (deceased) (Marie), Roger (Nouhad), Thérèse (Elie), Monique, Bernard, Paulette (deceased) and many nieces and nephews. Appreciation goes out to all those who have been a great source of strength and support to our family, especially Alcida and Georges, Nabil, Jorge and many of Raymond’s cherished friends in Sechelt, British Columbia.

Our deep gratitude goes out to the staff at Lakeshore General Hospital, in particular Dr. Iancu, Dr. Mandilaras, nurse Sabrina Jeans, Dr. Chen, Dr. Wanneh, Dr. Buhari, Dr. Abid, all the RNs, LPNs, PABs and staff on 4 West, as well as the Cardiology team, in particular Dr. Schiff and especially Bruno, whose intervention came at a most crucial time. Un merci spécial à Sylvie-Anne, archiviste, qui notre père a particulièrement apprécié. We also extend our appreciation to those we were unable to name here.

Special thanks also to nurses Louise Brossard, Dominique Overney and the team at Nova West Island, as well as the departments of home care (nurse Nancy Lemay) and palliative care (nurse Myriam Jean-Noel and Dr. Elena Neamt) at CLSC Pierrefonds, not to mention the staff at the blood taking clinic, who took great care of our father “Monsieur Raymond” over the last years. We also would like to thank nurse Sandy Fitzpatrick and all the staff at the West Island Cancer Wellness Centre. Our thanks also to pharmacist Nora Al-Khoury and her team for her professional and attentive overseeing of Raymond’s complex medicinal list.

Appreciation is also offered to Dr. Eiley, Mary-Anne and Connie for your care over the last three years. Thank you also to the MGH team under Dr. Thomas Hadgis.

Due to the circumstances of the pandemic, the family will be holding a virtual memorial for family and friends on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. EST. To receive details, please contact a family member.

I feel your loss deeply my dear family. Your father’s name, Raymond Schami, is arched in my four year old mind, when I first met him. He seemed to me to be a sophisticated, kind and serious presence in my young self. That never changed. A good loving man. My deep condolences.

Although I didn’t know Raymond well, I know his four loving and wonderful four daughters Danielle, Viviane, Stephanie and Veronica. I also know Alcida who,
with him raised that group of strong, independent, smart women. I am so glad you were able to be with him at the end and that you were able to share your love in person in these difficult times. I had the chance to see the video for his 80th birthday and your closeness and love was inspiring. Take care of one another and hope to see you all some time not too far away
    love Wendy

    Dear Veronica and Family,

I am very sorry to hear of your fathers passing. I know the added pain that COVID 19 can bring to your grief, as I lost my mother only a few months ago.

I hope you will find a way to be together, if only virtually.

My heart goes out to you all.
