O’BRIEN, Lise Mourgues
September 27, 2020

January 13 1944 – Sept 27 2020

We are sad to announce that Lise passed away on September 27, 2020, of heart failure.  She was the daughter of the late Maurice Mourgues and Alexandra Barker.  Married since 1967 to her beloved husband Barry O’Brien, Lise is survived by her family in France – sister Evelyne, brothers François (Annie) and Henri and her nieces and nephews Yves Mourgues, Alain Mourgues, Frédéric Chatoux, Christine Mourgues, Hélène Mourgues, and their families.

In Australia, Lise leaves to mourn her sisters-in-law Claire Russell of Melbourne and Jan Healy of Ouyen.  She will be missed by nieces Dominique Burgoine, Gabrielle Hammett, Felicity Healy and nephews Anthony Healy, Peter Healy and Brendan Healy, and their families. Lise was predeceased by her niece Fiona Russell.

Born in Marseille, Lise met and married Barry, an Australian, in the south of France, and together they decided to emigrate to Canada. They lived first in Alberta, and then moved to Montreal.  Many a West Island student learned their French from Lise, as she taught French Immersion at Beacon Hill, and prior to that, in Hudson.  Lise enjoyed watching her students grow up and kept her interest in them and their families.  She made lasting friendships with colleagues.

Lise and Barry shared a love of classical music, theatre, literature and travel.   She enjoyed classical choral music and sang with choirs in Montreal.

An intimate graveside burial service will take place.

In memory of Lise, a donation to a cultural or educational cause would be gratefully appreciated.
