Luc Poitras

Luc Poitras passed away peacefully on August 21st at the Lakeshore Hospital with family by his side, after a valiant battle with leukemia.

Luc was a caring husband to Nicole, a cherished father to Mike (Dimitra), a loving grandfather to Georgia and Penelope, and a treasured brother to Marc. Luc will also be missed by close relatives and dear friends.

He lived a very humble life, and enjoyed painting, reading and music. There will be no service as this was his wish, and arrangements were entrusted with Voluntas. His burial will take place at the Last Post Fund National Field of Honour in Pointe-Claire on May 28th at 11:30 a.m.

Should family and friends desire, a donation can be made to The Jewish General Hospital Foundation.

My sincere condolences to the family. I was saddened to hear about your loss. Luc’s loss is felt by all the people he touched in his life. I had the pleasure of knowing Luc over 20 years. He was not just an employee working with me but became a friend and confidant. We shared pain and joy. We shared the ups and the downs of our work and personal life. I will miss you Luc. I will be keeping you in my thoughts, and holding you in my heart. May you rest in peace.

So sorry to see this recent notice today on what would have been Luc’s birthday. He was a cherished friend since our high school days and has left us far too soon. My sincere condolences to dear Marc and all his family.

Luc was my identical twin brother; we were born together and I was at his side when he died. He was my absolute best friend throughout my life. There is no other human being that I have ever loved more then my brother. I am fortunate that he is my identical twin for he lives in my own DNA. So long my old friend.

And my sincere condolences to Mike, Dimi, Georgia, Penelope, Nicole, and the rest of the family and friends.

So long Poits, see you on the other side.

When I think of Luc as I find myself doing more often as the years pass, I think of when we were both young and serving in the same regiment, full of “piss and vinegar” and with worlds yet to conquer. Time passes and the world changes us more than we change it but friendships remain evergreen in our minds. As long as we are remembered we are never truly gone. You will be remembered and missed my friend.

During the past year my brother spent many months in the hospital and I could not visit him because of COVID-19 restrictions. This was an extreme hardship on both of us and the family. I urge everyone to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The faster we do that the faster we can visit our ailing love ones.

I met Marc and Luc in grade 1, identical twins, couldn’t tell one from the other.. They were on the french side and I on the english side. They would climb the fence at recess to the english side and we played. All the way through school and to this time, we were/are good friends. Luc would make sure we kept in touch, a phone call at least a few times a year, catch up on what’s happening. I valued those calls. I will really miss those calls. I will really miss my old friend.
My sincere condolences to Marc, Nicole and the rest of the family.

Mes sincères condoléances à la famille de Luc. J’ai eu le plaisir de travailler avec lui à distance à partir de Toronto. Toujours un plaisir de s’entretenir avec lui! Je suis vraiment attristée par son décès.
