April 7th, 1934 – October 27th, 2023
October 27, 2023, Masami Shinkoda (“Sam”), 89, passed away after a short illness at Lakeshore General Hospital.
Sam was born in 1934 in Vancouver, BC to Masae and Michie Shinkoda. He loved reading and perfecting languages, spending time outdoors kayaking and fishing. He recently went on a great camping adventure with his brother, Taizo, spent a week this summer in Manitoulin with his children and grandchildren, and fished with his brother, Ryuichi (“Rick”) and friend, Kevin, right up to his illness.
He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Tae, his daughter, Pamela (Tobin Young), his son, Peter, his son, Michael (Shinobu Shinkoda), his daughter, Patricia (Isaac Smith), and his beloved grandsons, Ryota and Kenzo. He is survived by his siblings, Toshiko, Noriko, Taizo, and Ryuichi.
The family will receive condolences at the Voluntas Funeral Home, 4695 Saint-Jean Blvd., Dollard-des-Ormeaux, on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 1- 5 p.m.
Expressions of sympathy can be made in his memory through donations to Lakeshore General Hospital or to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
