The Voluntas team has a big announcement and we want you to be among the first to hear it!
Throughout our past 10 years serving families, we have always made it our commitment to listen attentively to your needs and requests and to respond accordingly. One request that came to us frequently was the wish that we had our own venue that would provide a warm and inviting environment where families could gather to honour their loved ones in the manner that had the most meaning to them.
We heard your requests loud and clear and several years ago we began the task of searching for the ideal property that would best meet these criteria.
This was no easy task, but through extensive research and investigating, Voluntas is pleased to announce that we have located and purchased a property with an existing structure at 4697 Blvd St. Jean in Dollard des Ormeaux, conveniently located in the centre of the West Island.
The property is currently home to Ste-Geneviève United Church. The church has been serving the community for more than 55 years. In recent years, the congregation has found that it would be in their best interest to downsize and thus were pleased to enter into discussions with Voluntas as a possible buyer. Through much discussion and consideration, The United Church of Canada accepted to sell their property and building to Voluntas with the agreement that the sanctuary would remain in place for the congregation to use for their weekly worship and ongoing mission.
Voluntas will transform the balance of the building into a multi-functional, multi-cultural, multi-denominational funeral service facility. The existing structure and grounds will be completely renovated and converted into a modern, spacious, natural light-filled facility that will provide more options for the families that we serve.
This modern, airy structure will include a large gathering space for multi-purpose occasions; private offices with the same “homey” environment as the current Voluntas boutique location in Kirkland; easy access for special needs; ample free parking; full access to a large, modern kitchen; catering facilities; and a private, discreet entrance for decedent care. Additionally, it is located close to Fairview Shopping Centre ensuring easy access to public transportation.
We have met with our engineers and architects and have signed the final design plans. Work begins within the next few days with completion anticipated for late fall of this year. During the transformation phases, we’ll be posting photos on our Facebook page Voluntas Commemoration and our website voluntas.ca for you to follow and comment on our progress.
When work is complete, we’ll invite you to join us for an opening celebration so we can personally take you for a tour of our new premises.
We are honoured that we will be able to offer a service that our families have requested, but make no mistake, we will continue to respect our mission which is our promise to you:
- To stay current in our field;
- To respect our clients and serve our community;
- To keep funeral-related costs as low as possible;
- To simplify the process;
- To be flexible;
- To celebrate life in a unique and meaningful way.
Our Boutique location at 2744 Blvd. St. Charles, Kirkland will continue to serve families in their preferred venue, our door always open to receive your visits. And, we will continue to come to your home, in your time of need, when a loved one passes away or for pre-planning consultation.
The entire team at Voluntas is passionate about serving our families and we believe that this new additional facility will help us to be even more responsive to your needs. If, at any time, you have questions, please do not hesitate to call us at 514-695-7979. We’d love to speak with you.
Warmest regards,
Stéphanie Côté
