It is with great sadness that our family announces the death of James (Jim) Easson on Sept 11th, 2024, aged 85.

Born on 29 August, 1939 in Wimbledon, England during a tumultuous time in Europe. He spent the war years in Scotland eventually settling in Birmingham. Jim was a keen footballer and played on Birmingham’s Aston Villa’s 3rd team, but decided to pursue a career in accountancy. However, his passion for football never left him.

He started his career at a small firm in Birmingham but with an interest in seeing the world, he joined Price Waterhouse, spending two years in Paris followed by two years in Geneva.

Jim moved to Montréal in 1968 and joined KPMG, becoming a partner in 1977. After retirement, he volunteered his time as treasurer to many different organizations.

Jim had a great zest for life. He was a keen sportsman; in addition to his love of football he completed the Halifax marathon; played cricket; and later developed a love of golf. He was an ardent – and not infrequently critical – fan of the Habs, but his lifelong passion was Aston Villa and his support was unwavering, even when it was not necessarily warranted…

He loved to travel, enjoyed good food and company, and could occasionally be found belting out a good Sinatra tune at the end of an exuberant evening.

Jim appreciated a good story a good laugh and good people. You knew your story had landed when you heard Jim’s booming laugh – he was a great audience. Jim inherited two boys; never having had children of his own he bypassed all the difficult stages and went straight to the ‘let’s have a beer’ stage. He loved having the ‘boys’ in his life and provided sound advice to two young men.

He is survived by his wife Valerie, two step-sons Ross (Jo Levi) and Lee (Sarina Corsi) and grandchildren Jemma, Freddy and Erin.

Cremation has already taken place and a Celebration of Jim’s remarkable life will take place at a later date.

Any donations in his name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Montreal which helped Jim and Val enormously in the last years of his life.
