MAYOFF, Kayden

Kayden Mayoff passed away suddenly on October 26, 2025, at the age of 16 years, 10 months, and 19 days. He was the beloved son of Natanya Belle de Smit and Brandon Mayoff, and grandson of “groma” Nicolette (Ben), grandma Nicole, and grandpa John. Kayden also leaves to mourn his uncle Ryan (Sonia), cousins Dylan and Blair, great uncle Ralph (Erika), great aunt Danielle (David), cousins Alexandra (CJ), Ezra (Ocean), his much-loved dogs Charlotte and Ina, and many other relatives and friends, who had the great pleasure of knowing Kayden.

Kayden suffered from cystic fibrosis and was on the autism spectrum. He was extremely gifted, and often astounded his family with knowledge he was never taught. He trained himself to read by age three; could name every American president and all their details by age four; decided to be “Mozart, of course” for Halloween at age five; and recognized all countries by shape at the age of six. In elementary school, Kayden developed an interest in Classic Doctor Who, and created costumes for each Doctor to wear at home. Kayden also started to write his first play script at this time. Kayden next developed an interest in political theory. He read Karl Marx, Max Stirner, and many other political writers during the Covid lockdown. Kayden never enjoyed videogames; he preferred to spend his online time making Wikipedia corrections.

When Kayden decided to take up drumming at the age of eleven, he taught himself to become a talented drummer in less than a year. Kayden formed a psychedelic rock band named “otic stick”. They performed several live shows and released the EP named “Wildlife”. Kayden also composed a wide range of highly original experimental music on his own, exploring various musical genres, which he published on his YouTube channel, “Klavier Recordings”.

Kayden loved BMX outings with his grandpa John, keeping up to John with his scooter. Kayden loved to eat grandma Nicole’s great home cooking, and going out to eat at restaurants with his Dad, and with his Mom’s family. His appetite was voracious. Kayden generally preferred the company of adults, especially the elderly friends of his grandparents, with whom he discussed music, film, political theory, and business. Nevertheless, Kayden excelled in high school and was well regarded. He was on the honor roll every year, and won several awards of excellence. Kayden thrived most in his math and music classes at school, and especially loved his jazz band practices. He also had a keen interest in cinema. He preferred experimental arthouse films, and made a point of introducing friends and family to these genres.

Kayden was an extraordinary, talented, prodigious human being, whose light shone brightly in every circle he graced with his presence. We were all honoured to have known and loved him.

The family will receive condolences at Voluntas Funeral Home, 4695 St-Jean, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Qc H9H 2A7, on Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 2-5 p.m., followed by eulogies at 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Autism Alliance of Canada, Cystic Fibrosis Canada or the Beaconsfield High School Music Program, would be greatly appreciated.
