In Loving Memory of Johanne Orise Séguin, March 27, 2025 – Age 77
On March 27, 2025, Johanne Orise Séguin passed away at the age of 77. The eldest of three sisters, Johanne set a loving example of kindness and compassion. She extended her warmth not only to her family but to everyone she met—treating both strangers and loved ones with generosity and understanding. Like all the Seguin sisters Johanne spoke three languages, she loved math and cookbooks.
In her early years, Johanne lived in Montreal, Ottawa, New York City, and Toronto. She worked for the United Nations in New York, a reflection of her global perspective. She was the queen of cool. Eventually, she returned home to Canada, where she met her second husband and the love of her life, Lloyd. The two were inseparable, sharing a quiet, country life selling antique tools and hats. She was happily known to many as the hat lady. Lloyd and Johanne, lived in a big old house on a hill by a river with their beloved pets.
After Lloyd’s passing, Johanne returned to Montreal to lovingly care for her mother, Vera. Where she made new friends while still maintaining the deep friendships she has had over the decades. All the while talking to her sisters daily. Multiple times. She managed all the affairs of the home on Sherbrooke Street, making sure that all who came through its doors were ok. Johanne was the ever-reliable big sister who looked out for everyone. She had a heart of gold. Her boundless kindness and sweet smile will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her beloved sisters Orise and Veronique; her cherished nieces and nephew, Melissa, Rachel, and Jordan; and her adored great-nieces and great-nephews: Lyric, Muse, Maeve, Victor, Bazzy, and Nadiya. Also held closely in her heart were her devoted caregiver Natasha, and her dear friend of over 50 years Linda. Johanne also kept in touch with all the Séguin cousins and had fond memories of them growing up. She was especially close to Carmel and Michelle.
Johanne is now reunited with her beloved husband, Lloyd, her mother Vera Seguin, her father Jean-Paul Séguin, and her grandmother Maria Kyshlak.
As per her wishes, no formal service will be held. She will be laid to rest at Mount Royal Cemetery on June 18, 2025, where we will have a private reception with close friends and family.

April 5, 2026 at 4:50 pmBonjour, dommage d’apprendre cette triste nouvelle.

April 29, 2025 at 2:24 pmMy deepest condolences to Johanne’s family. I am so lucky to have been able to reconnect with Johanne in the last few years. We had worked together at Concordia University in the l980s. I was so warmly and lovingly received by Johanne, even though she was sometimes in pain. I felt so welcome at her place, and she made my rescue dog, who is rather a nervous type of dog, feel totally at ease: in fact, she immediately bonded with Johanne! I will miss her warmth and positive spirit so much.
