John Douglas Stewart, age 89, passed away peacefully after a brief illness August 28, 2025 at the Maison soins palliatifs Vaudreuil Soulanges in Hudson, Quebec .
John was predeceased by his wife Christine (1996), whom he forever missed. He leaves behind to celebrate his life and miss him terribly; daughter Heather (Eric Legault); Anne (Nick ); grandchildren Sean (SW1), Erika (pudding), Olivia (pussycat), Jake, Suzanne, Dads beloved 4 footed friends Ella, Pippa and Jazzy, they will miss their scratch behind the ears and broccoli at dinner ; numerous friends whom so many were like family, and of course, Sandra street.
We would like to thank the wonderful team at Sunrise DDO, who treated dad with care, dignity and respect. We would like to thank the Lakeshore General Hospital for supporting us through a very difficult time and of course, the wonderful staff at the Maison Libella (Maison soins palliatifs Vaudreuil-Soulanges ) for providing the comforts of home and a peaceful and dignified end of life for John.
We would also like thank Dr. C Abadir for always listening and practicing true family medicine. Also Mohamad-Ali Nasrallah (Audiologist) Costco Ottawa, Nepean. Your understanding of the hearing impaired and support were life changing for not only Dad but our family.
John was a proud Royal Bank pensioner having worked 41 years before taking his retirement in 1994. His family and many friends were his greatest joy.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Voluntas Funeral Home. Please join us to celebrate John. The funeral will take place on October 4, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 13140 rue Monk, Pierrefonds Quebec, H8Z1T6.
John would say, travel, eat well, stay informed, spend time with family and buy Royal Bank stocks. Old Royal Bankers never die, they just lose interest!
Donations can be made in his name to Maison de soins palliatifs Vaudreuil-Soulanges or the Canadian arthritis foundation.

September 28, 2025 at 1:47 pmThe Stewarts were our first neighbours who lived right across the street when we moved onto Sandra Street in 1978. Over the years friendships grew into what was more like family and Sandra Street a very special place to live. John will be missed. He was a wonderful man. He loved his family and showed an interest in all of them . He left an indelible mark. We can thank him for his wise advice, his kindness and times he’d click his camera of Gail and the dogs. That photo would find its way into his handwritten Christmas card just to make the greeting extra special. He was a good listener and storyteller. Until we meet again John. September 28, 2025 at 7:11 pmWe met in 1962 when Christine and I moved to Toronto and worked at the same company. We along with our husnands became good firends. Although we ended in different provinces we manged to visit each other and ramined close. I will miss the telephone conversations we had when we no longer travelled. His friendship meant so much to both if them and was a great comfort to my Mom after my dad’s passing in 2016. He was lucky to have the support if such a caring family and said so to my mom.
