Beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, relative, and friend, passed away April 2, 2025.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony Turmaine on April 2, 2025, after a difficult battle with a respiratory illness. He died peacefully at the Lakeshore Hospital, where the nurses and PABs showed exceptional kindness and care in his final days — something for which the family is deeply grateful.

Anthony’s life was a remarkable story of perseverance, intellect, and love. From his humble beginnings, he forged an extraordinary path, earning scholarships to Loyola and McGill Universities, where he completed two Bachelor’s degrees — one in Science and the other in Mechanical Engineering. His career spanned nearly three decades in the pulp and paper industry, where he rose to become Director of Engineering, admired for his steady leadership and sharp mind.

He was endlessly curious and passionate about learning. A master of even the toughest crossword puzzles and a proud philatelist, Anthony had a remarkable memory — he seemed to recall everything. He was always right, even when he wasn’t (and rarely admitted otherwise). His sense of humour was firmly rooted in the realm of dad jokes — delivered with perfect timing and a glint in his eye.

Anthony loved travelling with his family, was happiest cooking for others, and had a gift for showing up — for his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family — without hesitation, and without needing to be asked.

Anthony was a devoted caregiver to his wife Huguette, who is battling Alzheimer’s. Despite his own health challenges over the last two years, he insisted on keeping her at home, caring for her with unwavering devotion.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Huguette, his children Anne (Bryant) and Charles (the late Caroline), and his grandchildren Noah and Emilly, and Nicolas and Alexander. He is predeceased by his beloved daughter-in-law Caroline, whose memory he held close. Family was everything to Anthony, and his love for them ran deep.

He lived with purpose, loved with quiet strength, and gave of himself fully. Anthony will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered — for his wisdom, his one-liners, and his big heart.

The family warmly invites all those who knew and loved Anthony to join in a celebration of his life on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Voluntas Funeral Home (4695 boulevard Saint-Jean, Dollard-des-Ormeaux). The celebration will begin at 3:00 p.m., with a time for shared testimonials and memories to follow. Hors d’oeuvres, food, cocktails, and beverages will be served, and guests are welcome to stay and mingle into the evening, with the gathering ending around 8:00 p.m.
Our father loved life and wanted this event to be a friendly, joyful gathering — a chance for us all to reminisce, share happy or funny memories of Tony, and enjoy one another’s company in his honour. If you feel moved to share a memory or story, we would love to hear it.
