Dr. Alan Vost died suddenly on September 29, 2020, in his 86th year. He is survived by his wife Margaret, son Ewan (Barb), daughter Marian (Serge), and 5 grandchildren (Rachel, Jane, Thomas, Henry and Gillian) all of whom he was immensely proud of. He is also survived by his brothers Kenneth (Australia), David (Uganda) and their families. A gifted student in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Glasgow, Alan followed in the footsteps of two generations of physicians who practised in Stirling, Scotland. He emigrated to Canada in 1958 and settled in Montreal in 1963 when he joined the staff at the Montreal General Hospital (now MUHC) in the Department of Medicine (Endocrinology). During his career, he thoroughly enjoyed the challenges and achievements of his research and work. He loved mentoring McGill students in the Faculty of Medicine. He also participated in many sports and outdoor activities, was very well read and was extremely knowledgeable in a wide variety of topics. He spent countless hours in his garden and especially enjoyed the propagation and management of trees.
Alan was a loving and incredibly supportive husband, father and grandfather who will be forever in our hearts and greatly missed.
Due to COVID-19, a celebration of the life of this remarkable man will be postponed until spring 2021.
