We are sad to announce that Jim passed away peacefully at the age of 102.  While we all miss him desperately, we can hardly begrudge him his rest after such a long and wonderful life.  We are so grateful to have had him with us for so long.

Survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Gail (née Dwyer) and their two loving daughters, Virginia (Randy Shute) and Caroline (Frank Vincelli).  Predeceased by his adoring daughter Maureen (late Doug McAllister) and her son Colin.  He also leaves to grieve Maureen’s daughters Angela, Laura, and Rachel and her grandchildren Anthony, James, Abigail, Jacob, Jack, Desi, and Vivien.

Born into a time just after WWI, there were still horses on the streets of Montréal, not everyone had a phone or even a radio. The events, inventions, and progress he saw and experienced during his life are too numerous to even contemplate.

Jim served in the Navy during WW II, joining just before his 18th birthday, but claiming to be turning 20. If you were 20, you could stay ashore overnight. Convoy Duty was his first major deployment, working as Gun Layer. During his last two years of service, he was stationed in Sydney, Nova Scotia, patrolling the mouth of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. He received an Honourable Discharge in August 1945 with the rank of Petty Officer.

We would like to thank Dr. Richard Germain and Nurse Natasha Patenaude and all the caregivers at the CLSC du lac St-Louis for their care and support during the past two years of palliative care.

We also need to express our gratitude to everyone at the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence for their kindness, care, and support during the last three months of Jim’s life.

A gathering of family and friends will be held in the Spring.
