Charest (nee Poirier), Jacqueline Ann (Jacquie)

Jacquie passed away peacefully in her 86th year on August 12, 2026, surrounded by her four daughters.

She is predeceased by her loving husband Luc, her parents Marcel & Dorothy (Rawley) Poirier, parents-in-law Jean & Esther (Desaulniers) Charest, as well as her brothers- and sisters-in-law: Rich Lorito, Jean & Thérèse (Dauplaise) Charest, and Bernard & Cynthia (Downs) Charest.

Jacquie is survived and will always be remembered with love, admiration and gratitude by her daughters Nicole (Stéphane Bédard), Michelle (Scott Rattray), Monique (Karsten Koch), and Suzanne (Christopher Charlton), her grandchildren Ben (Brendan Barquero-McCrory), Emma (Daniel Byron), Sam, Annie, Nina, Leo, Corbin and Marin who cherished their Grandma, sister Kay (Poirier) and brother-in-law Steve Loftus, sister Susy (Poirier) Lorito, brother Bob Poirier and sister-in-law Pat (Cardinal) Poirier, brothers-in-law Guy Charest (Francine Gagné) and André Charest (Lesley Heron), her large and loving extended family, and many friends.

Jacquie completed Teacher’s College at St. Joseph’s in Lachine, Québec. She then taught elementary school in Lachine and Toronto for several years before marrying Luc and raising her four daughters. She was very active in her church and the Cursillo movement in Montreal. Jacquie was deeply committed to helping those in need through charitable activities as well as everyday acts of kindness. She was an angel to many, supporting them through end-of-life care, and helping new Canadians to establish their life in Montreal. Those who knew her will remember her for her compassion and generosity, for always being willing to lend an ear and a hand when needed, and for welcoming those around her into the fold.

Jacquie persevered and even thrived for many years while living with multiple sclerosis, and then also battled dementia in her final years. The family is profoundly grateful to the staff of Carleton Lodge in Ottawa, as well as her loving friend and caregiver Elvira Guzmán.

Visitation and the funeral mass will both be held on Monday, August 24. Friends and family will be received at Voluntas Commemoration (4695 Boul. Saint-Jean, Dollard-des-Ormeaux), from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Jacquie’s funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas à Becket Catholic Church (4320 Ste. Anne St., Pierrefonds) at 12:00 noon, followed by a reception in the parish hall and burial of ashes at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to MS Canada or The Dementia Society of Ottawa would be greatly appreciated.
