FAHEY (McDOUGALL), Ann Patricia

March 18, 1937-November 7, 2024

Passed away on November 7, 2024 at LaSalle Hospital, Montreal, following a brief illness.

Ann was born in Cornwall, Ontario to Cornelius and Donalda (McIntosh) McDougall. She grew up on Augustus Street with sisters Kathryn and Mary, and brother Peter. Ann had fond memories of summers with her McIntosh cousins at Coteau Landing, the Highland Games and many other family celebrations – traditions she would carry on with the next generation.

Ann attended Iona Academy and studied nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal (class of 1958) and finished with a degree in Public Health from Ottawa University. While working at St. Mary’s Hospital she met the love of her life, Joseph Fahey, and they married in 1960 at St. Columban’s Church in Cornwall, Ontario. Joe’s job took them to St. Louis, Missouri and Edmonton, Alberta but in 1972 they settled in Kirkland, Quebec to raise their five children and that’s where Ann remained until 2018.

Ann led a busy life raising her family and hosting countless friends and family members for holidays and Sunday dinners. She was a regular parishioner at St. Edmund’s Parish in Beaconsfield. In 1976 Ann returned to nursing and enjoyed a twenty year career with the Victorian Order of Nurses (now NOVA Home Care). Upon retirement she volunteered at Meals on Wheels and the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence.

Hosting Christmas Eve celebrations at 99 Parkridge Rd. was a favourite tradition; she enjoyed bridge games with friends, skiing with her family and many beach vacations to Maine. Ann was accepting of everyone and had many friends she kept close. She celebrated and helped with the arrival of each of her ten grandchildren and had personal relationships with all of them. Her smart, generous, feisty and fun spirit will carry on through each of them.

Ann was predeceased by her husband, Joe, her siblings Kathryn McDonald (Ambrose), Peter McDougall and Mary Miller. She was also predeceased by her sisters-in-law Kathleen Farrell (Donald) and Anne Fahey, and her brother-in-law Anthony Fahey.

She will be greatly missed by her children Michael (Josée Caron), Maureen, John (Katie Richards), Elizabeth and Tom (Wendy Lague); her grandchildren Sarah-Michelle (Kevin DeJongh), Kathryn, Alex Graham (Emma McLachlan), Brendan Graham (Bronwyn Steed),  Shannon, Joe, Nolan, Trevor, Bennett (Sophie Laperrière) and Colin, as well as her great-grandchildren Dax, Toni Jo and Teaghan.

She is also survived by her brother-in-law James Miller, sisters-in-law Diane McDougall, Mary Fahey and Patricia Fahey, many nieces, nephews, as well as friends and neighbours at her final residence, La Voile, in Pointe-Claire.

Ann dedicated her life to the service of others as a nurse, mother, grandmother and friend. She valued her independence and lived a full life on her own terms until the very end.

Visitation at St. Edmund of Canterbury Parish, Beaconsfield on Saturday, November 23 at 10:30 a.m. followed by funeral mass at 11:30 a.m. A gathering for family and friends will take place from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at La Voile, 329 Blvd. Hymus, Pointe-Claire. In lieu of flowers donations to  Nova Home Care or  Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence would be greatly appreciated.
