2004-2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic passing of our beloved son Liam at the age of 20 on Aug 27, 2024. He is survived by his loving parents, Mary and Sean, and his sister, Sarah. Forever cherished by his grandparents, David and Louise McAleer (nee DeLong).  Awaiting him by taking the eternal journey first, his beloved grandparents, Barbara (nee Cooke) and Leonard Dellar, his aunt Teresa (Gavin) and uncle Michael (Claire). His memory will live on in his uncles and aunts, Lois Dellar (James), Howard Dellar (Dianne), Michael McAleer (Nancy) Nancy McAleer (Harry), and cousins Conor Dellar, Jonathan and Nicholas Dellar-Fernandes, Madison and Sydney McAleer and David and Christina Avakian.

Liam was a beacon of kindness with a gentle, selfless soul that touched all who knew him. He was the first ever Guidance Office Student of the Month at Loyola High School and his laughter echoed through the halls of Loyola (Honors, Class of ’21), and Marianopolis College (Law & Society ’23). This melody of happiness will forever resonate in our memories and those of his close group of friends, teachers and staff.

A thespian at heart, Liam received the Arts and Humanities Ignatian Drama Award. His incredible knowledge of film and music trivia spanned decades, and his fun fact of the day and laughter were the soundtrack of our lives.

Some of Liam’s favorite days were spent as both a camper and later a counsellor for 6–11-year-olds at Camp Muskoka, Muskoka, Ontario. It was also where he captured memories of his favorite sunsets.

A final research project at Marianopolis College focused on the wrongly convicted due to intellectual disability. This inspired Liam and he was enrolled at McGill University (Bachelor of Arts, PoliSci major, Religion minor) as part of an eventual path to the study of law. The University flag will be lowered on September 19^th in Liam’s honor.

Liam lived his life selflessly, never seeking the limelight. As his elementary school Valedictorian, Liam vowed to forever support his classmates in whatever path they took and he encouraged others to shine and take centre stage and that if they looked off stage in the shadows, he would be there cheering for them. It is our fervent belief that he will always be a cheerleader for those who reach out to him or who waiver in their belief of themselves.

The funeral service will be held at the St. Patick’s Basilica, 460 René-Lévesque W., Montreal, Qc H2Z 1A7, on Saturday, September 21^st at 10 a.m. The burial will follow at noon at Belvedere Cemetery, 22025 Trans-Canada Hwy, Senneville, QC H9X 0B2.

Following the burial, a Celebration of Life will take place from 2:00pm – 5:30pm at Loyola High School, 2477 West Broadway, Montreal, QC, H4B 2A4, commemorating Liam’s compassion and willingness to make everyone feel loved and appreciated. Limited parking available behind the gymnasium.
